Activism in poetry: "Education" by slam poet Joe Limer & more

Excited about this evening's Speak Up (!) Diversity workshop, "Activism in Poetry."

Again, huge thanks to Melissa Chesanko & everyone involved in making this workshop happen.

Looking forward to discussing work by Dr. Maya Angelou ("The Rock Cries Out to Us Today"), Pablo Neruda ("The United Fruit Co.") & Liu Xiaobo ("Experiencing Death.") Hopefully the workshop participants can tune me into the work of poets I haven't heard yet.

During the workshop, I plan to let the students know about slam poet Joe Limer. I enjoyed sharing poetry with Joe last fall at West Virginia State University and also on stage at Harmony Ridge Gallery in Lewisburg, West Virginia.

Scroll down below to see video links from those events. Video includes Joe Limer's poetic commentary on technology & me sharing an excerpt from my poem, "Love is a Starling," which appears in "Crucible," book two in my STARLING Series. (Thanks Ginger Hamilton and Tim Armentrout for posting the videos.)

Having written about issues of public/private schooling in my novel, "The STARLING Connection," Mr. Limer's spoken word poem, "Education," is one of my favorites.

Thanks Joe for spreading the word/building awareness. Keep up the great work!
