Today I joined 33 others contributing support for a staged reading of "Positive +" by playwright Roger Banks.
"Positive +" is a worthwhile project to continue building awareness of issues that affect all of us.

"+ Positive is an autobiographical narrative of survival in the midst of death. A young gay man from the coal fields of southern West Virginia comes of age at the onset of the AIDS pandemic.
Hope during a plague? Whether by chance or fate, love conquers hopelessness in spite of loss and hate. Life is lived, regardless, in memory of those who are not here. It is the story of the luckiest people in the world. Help me tell this story."
I was a kid in the 1980s when we first started learning about the AIDS pandemic. There was much fear and misunderstanding.
Although we have improved treatments today, it's important to remember that the HIV virus continues to infect our fellow human beings across the Earth.
Let's not forget the many people, particularly those who can't afford/don't have access to modern pharmaceuticals, who continue to die. (Here are some recent CDC statistics.)
No matter happens, let us all conquer fear with hope, love and compassion.
Humanity will continue to face viruses like HIV. The lessons we learn can be applied in other difficult circumstances, whether we are faced with SARS, Swine Flu, MRSA or any of the new, harder-to-treat diseases being caused by microorganisms evolving ever-greater resistance to our overuse of antibiotics.
The project is supported by the Monongalia Arts Center (MAC) and Seven Stories Theatre Company. The staged reading is scheduled for April 11-13 at the MAC, 107 High St., Morgantown, West Virginia.
I encourage everyone to visit the "Positive +" Kickstarter page to learn more about this project and to consider joining other supporters to help fund the staged reading.
