I'm excited about our upcoming New Works Festival 8 p.m. Saturday April 26 at M.T. Pockets Theatre Company, 1390 1/2 University Avenue, Morgantown, West Virginia. (Click here for map. Click here for TICKETS, http://mtpocketstheatre.com.)
The script-in-hand New Works Festival is in the style of an old-time radio show, with humorous announcements tying scenes together.
Scenes are usually excerpts from works in progress/plays written by Morgantown area playwrights.
Scenes are diverse, running the length of the field between comedy and drama.
What's fun about this show is the myriad talented actors, writers and voices brought to the stage. There's SOMETHING for EVERYONE at the New Works Festival!
Director Donald C. Fidler (author of "Boogieban" and numerous other plays) announced the cast today:
Shenendoah Thompson (an actor, singer-songwriter and musician) is the Master of Ceremonies. Shenendoah will be performing in the show with Tracy Turner, Lauren Swann, Donnell Bohnke, David Beach, Vance Coombs, Paige Muendel, Carmen Fullmer and Travis Teffner.
If you're a Morgantown resident, or in the Morgantown area Saturday, you MUST come see this incredible cast. I was at the auditions over the weekend. I've seen many of these actors in other M.T. Pockets Theatre performances: In my book, they're top-notch. I consider this is an "ALL-STAR" Morgantown cast, an incredible line-up of talent. These actors bring a ton of creative energy.
Scenes are written by Donald C. Fidler, Dwight Harshbarger, Judith Stitzel, Dana Cihelkova and myself.
I'm thankful to be a part of this group of writers who encourage me in writing scenes/plays. I'm always trying to learn something new. Being part of a group can give that extra push many of us need to get more work D-O-N-E. Thanks to the supportive environment created by my fellow writers, I've finished two comedies, and more recently, two 10-minute plays.
I often encourage readers of this blog to join a writers group (if you're interested in acting, join community theatre): Discovering what you can do becomes a continual process, like a flower in perpetual bloom, when you collaborate with others who share your passions. I'm thankful for the generosity, time and community involvement of the writers, actors and artists I know who share their time and talents. (And, as always, a huge thanks to Vickie Trickett, Toni Morris and everyone involved with M.T. Pockets Theatre, as well as the entire theatre community in the Morgantown-Fairmont-Clarksburg area.)
You too can play a key part in co-creating this amazing artistic community: Join us Saturday at the New Works Festival!
