Theodore Webb's The Question: Is the Surveillance State killing American jobs?

Check out "Personal Privacy Is Only One of the Costs of NSA Surveillance" by Kim Zetter of Wired, http://www.wired.com/2014/07/the-big-costs-of-nsa-surveillance-that-no-ones-talking-about/

Here are a couple of highlights from the article, which discusses how the current State's vast surveillance has impacted American business in Germany. Brazil is also mentioned:

Brazil reportedly scuttled a $4.5 billion fighter jet contract with Boeing and gave it to Saab instead.
Or consider the impact on cloud computing:
American firms in the cloud computing sector are feeling the pressure as consumers and corporate clients reconsider using third-party storage companies in the U.S. for their data. Companies like Dropbox and Amazon Web Services reportedly have lost business to overseas competitors like Artmotion, a Swiss hosting provider.
The article begs the question:

How many jobs is the Surveillance State killing in a time when jobs that pay living wages are growing ever more scarce?

I also encourage readers to consider the far more important corollary questions:

If the Surveillance State is already killing jobs, is it also killing people?
(Critically considering its current trajectory, how large will the Surveillance State get and how far will it be capable of going in killing people directly?)

Here's a few other questions to think about:

  • To what extent does the Surveillance State threaten America's place in the world, our private property, "the pursuit of happiness," and our future economy?
  • Is the Surveillance State truly providing real, sustainable, long-term security, as claimed? Or could its hidden purpose actually be stealing the information of every citizen and private business which is our private property, then giving privately owned information to a handful of people at the top who are already far too powerful?
  • What are the true costs of such a corrupt "system"? Where precisely are the billions flowing into the colossal Surveillance State going?
  • Are those dollars (which originally belonged to "We, the People," including working single parents and people struggling to get by on slave "wages") -- are all those dollars flowing into the Surveillance State accounted for? Who is winning & who is losing?
