Authors losing a living? NYT op-ed

Scott Turow offers an insightful look into issues affecting authors, including publishing issues, monopolization, digital piracy, digital technology and more. Turow speaks to these issues in his April 7 New York Times op-ed, "The Slow Death of the American Author." The op-ed has some interesting thoughts in its last paragraph regarding a kind of modern "soft tyranny" that can come from the devaluing of copyright. Check it out, http://www.nytimes.com/2013/04/08/opinion/the-slow-death-of-the-american-author.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0.  Fellow authors: How do you see it? Is the problem monopolization or technology or both? Better question, what's the best approach these days for an author to find a way to purchase food and pay his or her bills in the digital age? Should society relegate writing and the human voice to a "hobby" with everything given away for "free"? Is this the inevitable result of e-books? Or not? Leave some comments.
